random thoughts tuesday

Don't you love it when you go through the forgot your password prompts and you answer your secret questions correctly and they tell you your new password has been sent to your email address and then, you know what comes next, you have no idea which email address you used.

Gotta love backyard chickens, too. You go through the trouble of cutting up veggie scraps, taking said scraps to the chicken coop in 106 degree temps, and how do they show their aprpeciation? They strut around on top of the veggies, mashing them into the dirt and then take a sh*t right on top. Splat!

I guess that's where the saying, I'm so happy I could sh*t originated.

And then there's the trappings of the digital age. You can't hide anymore. Case in point:

Just after I post a status update, my home phone rings. It's somebody whose voice I'd rather hear on my answering machine than hold a conversation with. So I do what any good socially avoidant personality would do, let the machine pick it up.

But they leave no message. Half a minute later my cell phone rings. I'm all, Day-em, busted 'n sh*t. Because now they know I'm either (a) sitting at my home computer, or (b) posting via my cell phone. But then I think, No. Wait. Don't answer. I'm outside feeding the chickens. I mean, really, who carries their cell phone to feed the chickens?

The upshot is this: In this digital age, it gets to the point where your frenemies think you spend an awful lot of time hanging out at the chicken coop.

Maybe you should post pictures of the chickens now and then ;)

My chickens are hating the heat here. And they look pathetic, all panting and whatnot.

On the digital age thing: I hate texting. If I don't respond immediately, I have a few acquaintances that will resend the text every 5 minutes until I *do* answer.

I hate being "digitally" on-call 24/7.

Chickens! You have chickens! I've been circling the idea that we need chickens. I know a number of rational people who have and love chickens.

Denny says it's not rational for us, the eggs would end up costing $25 each by the time we got the coop and fence and feed, the heater for the winter, plus paying paid the fine when the sheriff took him in for residential-area shooting of coyotes and raccoons (not foxes, he wouldn't shoot foxes).

I always say my phone was on vibrate and I wasn't near it...;)

I knew there was a reason I ignore my FB page. My gang knows I am notoriously bad about carrying my cell phone around with me or checking it for texts.

Raj -- I really should. But that would mean getting into the coop and, well, I'd rather stay outside the coop.

ADoC -- I'm amazed how many people fret over the pressure they feel to respond to their texts NOW, every.single.time.

Kathleen -- The coop was cheap for us because we had nearly all the materials leftover from Sam's work. Otherwise, you're right. $25/egg. As for coyotes, Sam dug a trench and filled with concrete to keep varmits out.

MPM -- Good answer. Is often the truth in my case. I used to routinely keep my cell phone in a drawer.

Thanks, Cheri. I think you are pretty brilliant yourself.

Susan -- There are very good reasons to ignore FB. Tracking me down might be the least of them.

One time I tried to do a password reset and realized I must have entered a wrong email address (I though it was tied to a Yahoo account) because all my answers to the prompts were wrong. Sorry!

I LOVE your final random. If only everyone would shout out nice things, we could drown out the rage and rotten stuff.

"you have no idea which email address you used." lol I thought I am the only one who never remembers which email to use
