election hangover

Ok, American voters, if this is the way you want things to keep going, you might just get your way now that you've sent a Republican controlled congress back to Washington.

In our great country, the one that stands for equality, the bottom 80% (wage and salary owners) own only 7% of the financial wealth. The top 1 percent (upper class) own 43% of the wealth.

Another way of putting this, " ...just 10% of the people own the United States of America."

You can read more, here.

As for me, I'm taking two aspirin and will call you back in two years.

I'm very grateful for the Project Runway marathon that's on today. I can escape the talking heads and the Rs who keep blathering on about taking back our country.

Sigh.

The crazy thing is that it's those people without the wealth putting the Republicans in power--cause that way they can keep their guns and continue to have no healthcare. It's beyond me.

What scares me is--WHO ARE THESE VOTERS??? Are they the same people considered to be a jury of my peers if I'm ever falsely accused and have to go to court?

And how did they grow up without critical thinking skills? How did they find someone to marry and get a job that paid money and how did they raise children? Speaking of which, what hope can we have for children raised by morons?

This situation is absolutely mind boggling. I am terrified that voters will elect a Republican president in 2012. In Wisconsin, most Democrats up for re-election were voted out of their jobs. SO disappointing... and scary.

"And how did they grow up without critical thinking skills?" This is what one of your posters asked?

Well, after two months teaching in a poor public high school, I could tell you horror stories about how these kids grew up without critical thinking skills! These kids have been taught NOTHING except the fact that they have the most "freedom" in the world and are living in "the greatest country in the world".

They hate me because I'm a foreigner and yet I can't really even tell them about how things are in Europe (um...better - well, at least in some ways) because I'd be accused of promoting a liberal agenda.

Ugh!

Jenn is right. There are a lot of conservative poor people.

I'm going to need more than 2 aspirin...

I'm saddened by Sen. Feingold's defeat. He was about the only elected representative that would stand up for populist/liberal ideals.

At least there were some horrible propositions that were voted down in Cali and we have ol' Jerry Brown back as Govenor.

But, yeah, these are troubling times in this country both culturally and politically.
