huh? is this really happening?

Can this be true?

McCain has chosen a woman running mate?

And does this mean the Republican party is actually hinging their presidential chances on wooing disgruntled Hillary supporters with this choice? The Hillary conservatives hate so much?

The Hillary they said shouldn't be president because Americans won't want to watch a woman age?

Will Rush question whether a former beauty pageant contestant is likely to be even more distressed by her deteriorating looks?

Election politics, if nothing else, are amusing.

It will be interesting how this shakes out. Will the disgruntled Hillary fans/feminists truly be able to swallow a rabidly anti-choice woman as VP?

I sure hope not.

Yes - at first I thought it was a very clever move but now I understand she is anti abortion, anti homosexuality and pro guns. I respect her right to hold her views but do not agree with them and wonder how many of your fellow Americans will agree with Jenn...

jenn - I can't imagine true Hillary supporters actually pulling the McCain lever in November. Like she said in her DNC speech, Are you in it for me? Or for the cause.

mary - and believes creationism should be taught in schools.

queers - yes, faux feminism

it's fascinating, isn't it? i go back and forth on the sarah palin thing. at first i thought it was brilliant.

then i thought, naaah, the hillary supporters will not be so easily bought off.

then i thought, no, i was right the first time; it's brilliant. he's not after the hillary supporters; he's after the fundies. the women fundies.

this is why i'm not a pundit. i can see all sides.

Well, for outside observors like me it makes the whole thing a lot more exciting. What a cast for this drama?

I don't pay much attention to US politics (mostly because I have never really taken the time to understand them) but I do REALLY REALLY REALLY hate the way they all parade out their families with them. It's a bit like that here (and getting more that way). But it makes me want to vomit!!

The only thing I have in common with Palin is the pink bits. That is it. McMetamucil has lost his mind.

laurie - absolutely right. its definately a move to bring out the fundies.

rb - yes, these conventions become theatre. dog and pony and family theatre.

mrs g - haha, McMetamucil! haven't heard that one. gotta use it : )

I too was surprised that he chose a woman running mate. Honestly, I don't understand a whole lot about politics but when I found out that he chose a woman running mate, my first thought was the same as yours: "Are we riding on Hilary's popularity? Are we shaking in our boots because Obama might make history by becoming the first minority president of the U.S. so you thought YOU could make history by bringing us the first female vice-president?! Had to make yourself stand out a bit, didn't ya?" As if he is trying to say: "Oh look how open-minded I am! I chose a woman running mate!" So obvious even to a newbie like me! I saw right through it!

ann - and it can't help but be an obvious ploy, with her lack of qualified experience. it's also not a surprise that she's a former beauty pageant contestant.

but I did admire her spunk while giving her acceptance speech.
