I don't like staying camped in the air conditioning, either. I'm grateful that I have AC, and will use it, but I really dislike retreating inside the house, sucking up what feels like stale air.
So I did what any reasonable Austinite would do for therrapy on an extremely hot June day:
Submerged myself in Barton Spring's year round 68 degree water, alternating with sunning on a raft. It could only have been more perfect if I was slurrping on a PPP margarita.
Now my husband, SAM, on the other hand? He chose a completely different path:

He prefers to sun himself from a rooftop, armed with a tool belt and nail gun. He's decking the roof of our neighbor's addition. Which he framed. In this heat. Now that is hawt. And I do likes me some of this kinda hawt.
You can't see me, but I'm down below, rendering
What about you, readers? How do you cope with the summer heat?

108 degrees and he's working on the roof? Forget the iced tea. He needs a mental health evaluation.
I love the idea of those springs! And the PPP margarita.
FF -- especially since he hasn't done this kind of outdoor framing work in a few years. But I think he rather likes getting out there and seeing that he can still do it. Manly man, kinda thing.
Nothing better than a hawty in a tool belt!
That said, I'll be at the pool if you need anything.
I was just out in all the nasty HOT Austin weather, and now I'm recovering on my bed with my cat snoozing at my side, a large iced tea in my hand (yes, typing one-handed), and looking out the window at all the kids playing in the pool while I bask in 68 degrees. Kinda like Barton Springs. :)
Sorry. I'm a a/c girl. Cannot stand the heat. I don't know how you do it;)
I had no idea he was framing - and roofing - it himself. WOW.
Jesse took the girls to Barton Springs yesterday, and we missed you at the Michael Jackson wake. He just left to take Hazel there again, and I'm in full retreat mode.
he is nuts on the roof in that heat, oy!
I wouldn't know . . . it's been all June gloom following May gray around these parts.
I'm sure I wouldn't be roofing, though!
How do I cope? Lie panting and listless on the couch with a cool drink.
Roofing? never.
blognut -- I'll join you.
cheri -- Thanks, someone's gotta do it.
fragrant -- But are you on an air mattress?
mpm -- today for instance? haven't been out in it. sucking up the stale air.
sinda -- yes he framed and laid the decking. but he does have a roofer do the rest.
flutter -- nuts, yep, I agree.
jenn -- I don't envy the June gloom but I wouldn't mind giving it a try. as a break.
g -- now, I can't see you as listless. not with all that hiking you do.
Iced Tea and as little clothing as possible!
Your husband is all kinds of CRAZY. I like your approach better.
I whine in the heat and then drink mojitos and forget to whine.
I'm still laughing about your query - How do I cope with the summer heat? You mean me, up here in the Pacific NW?
I do a dance of joy in my front yard until I fall down, exhausted, on the 80 degree lawn.
:D
I am soo on your wavelength here. Sunning myself somewhere where there is a pool (which is rather difficult to find in London) with a Margarita or three in my hand. That's how I like it! Rooftop with tool belt and nailgun? No thanks.
If i say I stay inside with the AC on will you totally break up with me?
And then I go to the pool!!
Okay, seriously? That hub of yours is hawt...very. As my brother would say, "manly men do what they gotta do"...and it usually involves tools.
Me? If I'm not working (in the a.c.), I try to get to the beach...I loves me some nice waves, a breeze in the air, and a cold brew--if I'm not driving.
I can see myself at those springs...on an air mattress, sipping a camaflouge marg!!
Your husband looks so much like mine. Are you sure we aren't BIG LOVE?
I don't cope with the heat very well at all! I ususally swell up, even though I drink lot's of water. I'll sit in our basement where it's cooler and watch movies.
Luckily in the Seattle area it only gets really hot a couple times a year, so usually you'll find me out on the patio, under the umbrella reading a book with a cold beverage!
By breathing that stale air!
I'd like to be in Seattle.
don't know. Yesterday it was freakin' HOT in Louisiana...but we were out in the yard LANDSCAPING.
We realized our idiocy the 3rd time we had to 'take a breather' b/c we were going to DIE.
By the end of it, we'd soaked ourselves with the hose. Not the kids, US. The kids had vanished into the depths of our home...never to be seen again until after nightfall....
