I long ago quit trying to sneak tofu into anything. My kids could spot it before they sat in their chairs.
I sure wish I could use that excuse for my dementia. That I do...

I always thought Tofu's biggest problem was its name - it just sounds disgusting. I have not ever knowingly eaten it - or actually maybe I have eaten loads and just can't remember!!!

jenn - I haven't gotten as far as trying to serve it to my kids. Husband, yes. Eggplant & tofu pasta. He was not impressed. At all.

hp - I've had tofu served by others and liked it. I'd like to make it a weekly staple. But the mold in fridge is as far as I ever seem to get on this goal!
tofu is super healthy and delicious, the studies that say otherwise are funded by the meat and dairy industry who feel threatened by the soy industry. blocks of tofu are boring but there are great imitation "meats" made of soy protein that are great. you can buy them pre-packaged at a health food store or make them yourself. goveg.com has good recipes.

i have eaten fab marinara sauce with tofu in it .... i've never tried to make tofu anything myself, but when fed it, generally like it ..... but it can't LOOK like tofu ...... i've never been health conscious enough to need an excuse though ... i just don't make it.....generally don't eat it .....
.....all that said, i have nothing against soy ... edamame is my favorite snack ...please tell me it isn't giving me dementia!

e - now soy milk is another discussion. I love my vanilla and cappuchino soy milk. so nothing against soy, per se, its just the tofu I have so much trouble with.
Soy has supposedly be linked to thyroid problems. I used to be a big soy milk drinker and the endocrinologist stopped me. I haven't followed up the research. I work off the theory that they can prove anything is harmful with excessive consumption. Meanwhile, I'm still enjoying a nice soy hot chocolate in the winter.
I have tried and tried this stuff and the only way I like it is in Miso soup. Just can't wrap my head around the whole bean curd idea...and believe me, I eat just about everything.
hp - I was dx'd with low thyroid a couple years ago, about the time I started bringing cartons of soy milk into my office refrig. I drink it for peri-meno reasons... but now I wonder....
stacie - Its the consistency I don't care for, especially when served as a hard cake. Its supposed to take on the flavor of the food its cooked with.
This is why I recommend vodka - odorless, colorless, and doesn't grow mold.

I can avoid tofu. I can't give up my Chocolate Soy Milk though. Nuh-uh. No way!
When my son was young, he used to call it toad food. I can't bear its texture.
I used it as a substitute for hamburger meat in a spaghetti sauce that turned out really (and surprisingly) well.
Yes, I did it. A lifetime ago when I was trying to find myself in a different marriage. I thought tofu would bring a higher sense of purpose and meaning to our journey that is life.
The recipe sucked, the marriage failed.
Now we happily eat Brazilian churrasco with gusto, hmmmmmm, delicious!

We use tofu because we are tender little snowflake folks, chock full of allergies.

heather - churrasco, is that a type of sausage? the name reminds me of chorrizo, a mexican sausage
lisa - that IS a challenge. my dau had issues with dairy and we tried dairy-free for a few days. it was really difficult. the rest of the family balked loudly.
