flipflop season

for SOME of you out there, that is. But apparently, not everybody.

I know this now thanks to all the comments of support and empathy for the fact that I mostly have to wear thick soled slides.

As one example, thanks to Fantastic Forrest, my new summer mantra is, Slides are not clunky. They are hawt.

Yeah, baby.

Either lots of people can't wear thong sandals with abandon, like me, or the regular readers of my blog tend to be comfortable-shoe-wearing-feminist-lesbians, also. Ok, well, minus the lesbian part, for some of us, anyway.

Alas, I have heel spurs and thongs are also out of the equation for me. Fear not, I wear Crocs *shudders* with regularity...

Jason, as himself said...

I am grateful that I can wear flip flops with wild abandon. Because the kind of sandals you describe here just wouldn't be right for me.

Paddle foot is so much kinder than monkey foot, which is what my family calls mine. Similar physical description to your feet...

And I wear thongs on my feet. When I lived in Miami Beach (13 lbs lighter, 20 years younger and infinitely more toned) I wore a thong bikini too. Secret to both: find a thong that's smooth and not too tight.

These days, with feet wider even than they were then, I find I can wear thongs only selectively. Lightweight, thick soles, glassy smooth toe separator.

Last thought, if thongs don't work, glue or pin sparkly purple flowers on your slides. No one will notice they're not thongs.

I have to wear cloth flip flops not rubber ones or else I get a rash between my toes. :(

For the sake of my arthritic foot I have mostly switched to flats that I can put good orthotics into, if that makes you feel better...though right now I have on cute cushiony black thongs with yellow polka dots.

I'm willing to suffer a LITTLE bit, but not too much. Now that I'm past my 30s I realize it's simply not worth it to have foot/toe pain! ;)

My husband couldn't care less what I put on my feet, as long as it doesn't make us late...

I'd prefer to go barefoot, always but living in the northern states sort of prohibits that sort of nonsense. So as soon as it is reasonably possible (60*?) I am in flip flop heaven. But I will admit to a comfy pair, or two, as well. And pink toenails. Happy (almost) summer!
