Alex (Not-to-be-confused-with-Adam) Lambert, the cutest boy in a blonde mullet EVER, sang Ray LaMontagne's "Trouble." You can see and hear Alex here. He's got this amazing raspy voice with incredible tone.
Lilly Scott, the cutest girl in a blonde mopsy-top, sang Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces." You can see and hear Lilly here. And if you want to hear a more soulful song, Lilly's version of Sam Cooke's, A Change is Gonna Come, can be heard here. Either way, you can't help but fall in love with her unique sound.
But tonight, American voting fans gave these same two contestants the giant Idol finger pointing them off the stage. WTF, Idol viewers? Do I need to whip out my wireless phone and slip out of my Idol voting apathy?
One consolation, Alex lambert is from the DFW area, which I hope means he'll find his way to the Austin music scene one day.
Second consolation, American Idol will no longer be a factor in my evening exercise sabotage. But don't worry, I've got plenty more where those came from.
Like, for instance, if Crystal Bowersox makes it to the Top Ten, in which case I might have to sacrifice my get-skinny-quick-scheme for yet another ten weeks.
Now, if all that isn't enough trouble for you, check out Ray LaMontagne's original version.

Just as you got me interested in actually watching AI, the news of their kicking-off made me certain I don't need to tune in after all. But I'll still be joining you in pursuits of avoidance and distraction. Try Facebook Scrabble. It'll sabotage any get-skinny-quick scheme.
I'm here to tell ya.
I have scrabble loaded as one of my FB apps. but haven't managed to play a game yet. We'll have to play a virtual game one of these days/nights.
I was a little surprised Lilly got the boot.
I love Christal Bowersox -- but is she sick or is she just freaked out by the results show? She looked horrible last night.
I'm not following AI very much this season, but I did like Lill Scott. What a bummer.
cheri -- maybe I can get a second husband of my own second?
slow panic -- Newspaper says she has diabetes and that is why she was hospitalized. The girls were supposed to perform on Tuesday night but delayed so that Bowersox could perform on Wednesday.
They'd have just butchered his mullet if he stayed. Be glad he's off of there and can come play for you! ;)
real live lesbian -- that's a very good point. I tend to think NOT making the top spot on AI can often be better for fans. AI seems to be such a talent grind with so many obligatory performances.
I haven't watched Idol this season, but I'm always suprised by who leaves and who stays.
If you get out the jumprope and hoola-hoop, you can get your exercise and Idolatry at the same time. Maybe you'd even hoola faster/longer.
I know that's what you wanted to hear...
K -- Especially when it gets down to the last remaining dozen or so. Sometimes it starts becoming more about who is voting than about talent.
Kathleen -- Maybe not what I want to hear, but what I need to hear. So thanks. Great idea. Ahem.
The show hasn't grabbed me this year. No chemistry among the judges, contestants who do not compel and, as always, there's Ryan.
But I'll be checking it out Tuesday to hear them murdering my favorite Stones songs.
My wife agrees with you on the recent boot offs, too. She couldn't believe it.
I haven't seen a single AI this season since the open audition episodes. I told my kids to let me know when they're down to the last 4 or 5 singers, and then, MAYBE, I'll pay attention.
Nice post and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you as your information.
I didn't see the guys perform last week, but just watched Alex's performance and thought it was really good. I love that song and he did it justice. Too bad he was voted off, I think he's improved every week like Ellen said. I wasn't a big lilly fan, she just didn't do it for me. Crystal, on the other hand, is great!
Voters got it WRONG! Loved Alex's 'Trouble'!! He's got the sweetest face and gorgeous unique voice. So. Wrong.
First, thanks so much for stopping by my blog/podcast. I'm going to read through your posts about marriage, since we are working on a marriage and faith project on my site.
In the meantime, I did get sidetracked by this AI post. I did like Alex, but I didn't feel like he was all that consistent (even though his last performance was his best.) I think that song choice hurt Lilly, I think she was appealing to the indie loving part of the audience and that singing Patsy Cline had them saying "huh?"
To me the biggest question is "when will the redhead go?" and I guess more importantly how is she still there?
why oh why did i go ahead and click on your post and read? see....we are a week behind the States with AL and now? yeah. I don't have to watch...but i will...because I want/need to. damn.
oh btw...if you follow cheri and get yourself a second husband, then you will just have to continue and get a wife, also. I'd offer up for that...you know...if you need someone.
just saying!
I especially like the phrase: "a factor in my evening exercise sabotage."

Thank heavens for reality tv... otherwise I might have to use my treadmill.
Close call...
You have to admit that there are the top 3 (Michael, the Hippie girl, and Surfer Guy Casey)....and then everyone else.
I liked Alex, and I thought he should last at least another week. Paige should never made it as far as she did.
